Statements deploring the death of Premier Maurice Duplessis of Quebec were issued here today by the Canadian Jewish Congress and the National Bicentenary Committee of the Congress.
No date has yet been set for the ceremony launching the Bicentenary following cancellation of original plans because of the Premier’s death. The ceremony was to have been held at Trois Rivieres on Labor Day, with M. Duplessis in a leading role. A new date, it was understood, will be fixed in agreement with the Trois Rivieres city administration.
Trois Rivieres was selected for the opening of the celebration of the bicentenary of Canadian Jewry because it first elected a Jew, Ezekiel Hart, to the Legislative Assembly.
