Out of the total restitution claims against West Germany, aggregating $4,093,600,000, only $1,363,600,000 have been paid out as of the end of last June, an official of the Federal Republic’s Ministry of Finance declared today.

The official said that, under the Restitution Law, settlement of the outstanding claims need not be completed until 1962. He declared that “a very large number” of the claims, not only from Jews but also from Germans abroad, and from others, “need careful examination which require much time.”
