Remains of 10, 000-year-old Settlement Discovered in Israel

Signs of prehistoric settlement have been discovered by Professor Moshe Stekelis of the Hebrew University, near the coastal town of Atlit south of Haifa, it was reported here today. Work on the site has been in progress for 15 years.

Prof. Stekelis, who heads the University’s Department of Prehistoric Culture, reported finding the remains of ten circular structures dating back some 10,000 years. Another layer, containing objects even older than the ten structures, has also been discovered beneath the ruins. Articles found on the site include examples of primitive art of the period.
