An appeal to the French Government to act against the notoriously anti-Semitic “Jeune Nation” magazine was made today by 16 Jewish organizations here.
The periodical frequently carries violently anti-Semitic articles and promotes Fascist and Nazi ideas. Since it is violently opposed to President de Gaulle and his policies, issues have frequently been seized by the Government for outrages against the General The periodical, however, has never been acted on for its anti-Semitism.
The Representative Council of the Jews of France. CRIF, today requested the Paris police to take action against anti-Semites inscribing anti-Jewish slogans on the walls of the city’s streets and subway stations. In a letter addressed to the Prefect of Police M. Papon, the organization expressed concern at the increasing number of such inscriptions, noting that certain subway stations were particularly singled out by the culprits. The council asked that the police apprehend these responsible.
Leaders of the Jewish Community here today paid tribute to Dr. Felix Kursten, the Swedish doctor who, as Himmler’s physician, saved tens of thousands of persons from death in concentration camps. At a luncheon in Dr. Kursten’s honor sponsored by the French section of the World Jewish Congress. Dr. Vidal Modiano and writer Edmond Flegg paid homage to Dr. Kursten who described how he negotiated with Himmler to save lives.
