The draft of an amendment to the Constitution of the World Zionist Organization, which would make possible admittance of both individuals and organizations accepting the Zionist program, was approved last night by the plenary of the World Zionist executive.
The amendment, which would authorize the World Zionist Congress and the Zionist Actions Committee to accept such individuals and organizations, will be presented for approval at the next meeting of the Actions Committee which begins here December 25. The amendment would make it possible for non-Zionist organizations to join without being forced to become involved in Zionist politics.
Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, summed up the executive’s discussion, with a warning that the organization of the Zionist movement must be widened. He said existing conditions could not be permitted to continue and that expansion appeared to be the only way to deal with the problem.
He said that while it was difficult to develop cooperation between various units beside the Zionist movement, there was a chance to bring together organizations not within the Zionist structure. Success in such an effort, he added, would depend on two factors: Whole-hearted support of the idea by the Zionist parties and the “moral backing” of the State of Israel.
