The El Al Israel Airlines announced today that beginning from tomorrow, El Al passengers will be able to make radio-telephone calls from almost any part of the world while in flight along the airline’s international routes.
Cost of a three-minute telephone call from over the Atlantic to New York City ranges from about $3. 00 to $9. 00 depending upon the location of the aircraft at the time of the call. Calls may be made only from plane to shore and as yet are not available from ground to air. El Al’s new service is the first such commercial telephone service available to trans-oceanic passengers.
A change in management of El Al Israel Airlines in this country was announced by the airline today. Y. L. Koppel, who has been the airline’s American manager for ten years, was replaced last week by Dror Galezer, an associate and friend. Mr. Koppel, at the recommendation of the Israeli Government, has been granted a two-year leave of absence from the company to represent a group of major Israel hotel and industrial interests in the United States, the airline said.
