Parliament will formally debate the recent resurgence of anti-Semitism in this country, it was learned here today, after Gerhard Schroeder, Minister of the Interior, announced the government will have a “White Book” on the subject ready for placement before Parliament in about two weeks.
Dr. Schroeder said that, especially in relation to public opinion abroad, it is necessary “to interpret the anti-Semitic indications realistically.” He warned against “over-exaggeration” of the facts involved.
Today, two members of Parliament, Social Democrat Alfred Frenzel and Christian Democrat Franz Boehm, announced they have resigned from the Resistance Fighters for a United Europe, because the current investigation into the wartime activities of Dr. Theodor Oberlaender, Minister for Refugees, is a “farce.”
Dr. Oberlaender is being accused of aiding the Nazis in the massacre of Polish and Jewish intellectuals during the war at Lemberg, Poland. Prof. Boehm said in his announcement that he was resigning from the Resistance Fighters’ organization and that Dr. Oberlaender’s investigation should be conducted by a German agency. The current probe into Dr. Oberlaender’s activities is being conducted by a committee at The Hague.
