Ground was broken here today for a new, 1,500,000-pound ($840,000) housing project for settlers from the United States and Canada. The project overlooks this city’s “green belt” commencing at the Valley of the Cross, near Hakirya, which is the site of the new Hebrew University campus, government ministries and the new Parliament building under construction.
The development will include a shopping center, a park and a swimming pool. Land for the project was provided by the Jewish National Fund. Part of the financing will be accomplished through the conversion of State of Israel bonds held by Americans and Canadians into 20-year mortgage certificates.
