Two candidates for Ph.D, degrees, Alfred J. Kutzik of Hartford and Arnulf M. Pins of New York, have been awarded Harry L. Lurie Fellowships, it was announced today by Stanley C. Myers of Miami, chairman of the Fellowship Award Committee.
Mr. Kutzik will receive $1,500 to help finance his studies toward a doctorate degree at the Florence Heller Graduate School for Advanced Studies at Brandeis University.He is pursuing research in problems of community organization, particularly in the Jewish community. Mr.Pins will receive a $500 grant to aid him in his studies for a doctorate in education at Teacher’s College, New York, He is conducting research in solving problems of recruiting, financing and curriculum for social service.
The Harry L, Lurie Fellowships were established through contributions by friends and colleagues of Mr. Lurie in honor of his 20 years of service as executive director of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, from which he retired in 1954. The Fellowships were designed to aid the professional advancement of exceptionally qualified students who show a potential for leadership in social work, and to stimulate research in social welfare administration and community organization.
