Jewish cultural life in Algeria has been substantially expanded with the creation of a new cultural center in Saida and the further development of the existing Jewish center in Tiaret, it was reported today.
The Saida center, which was established with the help of the World Jewish Congress, includes a lending library, records and films on Israel. The center plans to organize lectures on Jewish topics. The Tiaret center is accelerating its activities. Seminars and classes will be held during the summer months.
It was also reported here that nearly all Jewish children in Tunisia are receiving a traditional Jewish education. The Organization of Tunisian Jewish Communities and Tunisian Jewish Centers reported that 1,014 Jewish boys and girls are attending regular courses in Jewish education and religious instruction.
With the help of the Alliance Israelite and the Joint Distribution Committee, special classes are being held for kindergarten teachers in several Tunisian cities.
