Fifty Zionist “old timers”–active personalities who had attended at least one of the three initial Zionist Congresses–met informally last night at the home of President Izhak Ben-Zvi, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Theodor Herzl, father of political Zionism.
One Zionist believed to be the sole surviving person who attended the first Congress, held at Basle in 1897, was among the guests. That veteran is Mrs. Clara L. Mishar. The “old timers” exchanged with President Ben-Zvi, Mrs. Ben-Zvi, and among themselves, reminiscences of Dr. Herzl and of the early days of the Zionist movement.
