West Germany cannot abandon Israel after the expiration of reparations payments in 1963, Alfred Frenzel, chairman of the Bundestag Reparations Committee, told a press conference last night.
Frenzel, a member of the opposition Social Democrats, is on a visit to Israel for two weeks as a guest of the Israel Treasury. He met yesterday with Levi Eshkol. Israel Finance Minister, for a discussion of a proposed 500,000,000 deutschmark loan for Israel which was first broached during the meeting earlier this year between Prim Minister David Ben-Gurion and Chancellor Konrad Adenauer in New York City.
While it was not yet known whether the loan would be made to the Israel Government or to industry, the West German leader told Mr. Eshkol there was strong support among all West German political parties for continued aid to Israel after 1963. He also predicted Israel would be included in West German aid to underdeveloped countries and that claims of individuals for damages and losses under the Nazi regime would be extended to categories of claimants still not provided for, among them, Rumanian Jews.
