President Ayub Khan of Pakistan declared today that no uniform policy regarding recognition of Israel was possible for member countries of the Central Treaty Organization. He told a press conference in Karachi that each member of the CENTO bloc was guided by its own policy with respect to Israel.

The Pakistani President denied press reports that he had written to United Arab Republic President Gamal Abdel Nasser regarding the break of diplomatic relations between the U.A.R. and Iran over the latter country’s recognition of Israel. Diplomatic circles in Pakistan and India believe that Pakistan was placed in a difficult position by the situation in view of her growing relations with Arab countries and especially with the United Arab Republic.
