The restored Touro Synagogue building here, which dates to 1763, will be dedicated in December, it was announced here today by Dr. Bernard C. Friedman, president of the Society of Friends of Touro Synagogue National Historic Shrine. Dr. Friedman reported to the annual meeting of the society that $263, 349 had been raised towards the restoration project which will cost an estimated $330, 000.
The building, an outstanding example of colonial architecture, is the oldest surviving structure of its kind in the country. In 1946, the Federal Government designated the Touro Synagogue as a national historic shrine.
