Shmuel Halkin, well known Yiddish author, poet and playwright living in the Soviet Union, died there last week, and impressive funeral services were held for him in Moscow last Friday, the second day of Rosh Hashanah, according to a report brought here from Russia by Moshe Kol, a member of the Jewish Agency executive. He was 61 years old.
The services, according to Mr. Kol, were held at Moscow’s “Writer House.” Among the wreaths placed on the coffin, he stated, was one from the Israel mission in Moscow and another inscribed in Yiddish from “the Yiddish Writers. “Mr. Halkin was born in Minsk.
