Adolph Held, chairman of the American Jewish Labor Committee, said today he had received assurances from leaders of both Chancellor Konrad Adenauer’s Christian Democratic Union and the opposition Social Democratic party that they would do everything possible to speed up the pace of restitution payments to victims of the Nazi regime.
The Jewish labor leader visited Bonn, Duesseldorf, Frankfurt and West Berlin at the invitation of the Social Democratic party. He indicated he was very impressed by the Jewish institutions he visited in West Germany and in the western sector of Berlin. He also met with Dr. H.G. Van Dam, secretary general of the Council of Jews of Germany, and Heinz Galinski, chairman of the West Berlin Jewish community.
