The 50th wedding anniversary of Abraham Weisberg, business manager of the Jewish Advocate of Boston, and his wife, has been marked by the establishment of a $25,000 fund to improve student-sponsored publications at Brandeis University.
“The Abraham and Sarah Weisberg Fellowship Endowment Fund” will subsidize a graduate student or faculty member with a background in printing production methods to serve as technical advisor to such publications on the college campus.
The fund, established by a gift from the Weisberg family, was made at a golden wedding celebration. The donor family emphasized that the fund will not be used in any way to influence the editorial content of Brandeis student publications, only to assist in technical aspects of the publications.
Brandeis President Dr. Abram L. Sachar, in accepting the gift from Joseph G. Weisberg, co-publisher of the Advocate and son of the honored couple, said: “The grant is one of unusual perception. We have no school of Journalism but many of our students have interests and talents that are so oriented. They are the youngsters who take student responsibility for our campus newspaper and other publications and they derive concrete benefit from this gift. That they will now be able to work under the competent guidance of the person holding the Weisberg Fellowship will give this aspect of their extra-curricular activities new meaning and new solidity.”
