Frankfurt officials announced today that Otto Hunsche, a former member of Adolf Eichmann’s special commando unit, was arrested in Batten Westphalia and brought to Frankfurt prison.
The 49-year-old lawyer and former SS leader, was charged with the deportation to the Auschwitz death factory of some 1,500 Hungarian Jews in 1944. He was incriminated in investigations carried out by the Frankfurt prosecution office against Eichmann’s deputy, Herman Krumey.
Hunche’s arrest was one of a series of actions against former Nazis. In Bamberg, the State asked life imprisonment for Georg Schlosser, a 46-year-old postal employee on trial for the murder of eight Jews in the Czenstochowa Ghetto.
A former SS medical aide, Josef Klehr, testified yesterday in the trial of Dr. Johannes Kremer before the Munster Jury Court. Dr. Kremer, 77, is accused of designating thousands of prisoners for death at Auschwitz. Klehr testified that Dr. Kremer “selected” the victims at the entrance room, selecting old women and children for extermination.
