Israeli Workers Protest Against Government-approved Rise in Prices

Thousands of factor y workers here participated in a half-hour strike today in protest against price increases recently approved by the Government on a variety of items. The strike was opposed by the trade union department of the Histadrut, Israel’s labor federation, which labeled it an “unofficial” strike, claiming it was inspired by Communists and the leftist Mapam party.

Despite the objection and appeal by the Histadrut, thousands of persons stopped work between 10 and 10:30 this morning. Special “action committees” in the larger factories, addressed the workers during the stoppage, demanding that the Ministry of Finance reverse its decision for higher levies and duties on various essential commodities,
