A complaint that the West German Government has failed to consider compensation claims from victims of nazism who are citizens of countries with which Germany has no diplomatic relations was made at a conference of the International Auschwitz Committee, held at Warsaw, according to the French newspaper Le Monde.
The committee also complained that the Bonn Government has “failed to fulfill its promise to pay a basic indemnity of 1,200 marks” to all who had been interned at Auschwitz, Another grievance voiced at the conference concerned difficulties in obtaining compensation from large German industrial firms, like I, G. Farben and Krupp’s, which employed slave labor during World War II.
The committee voted to appeal to all governments whose citizens had been inmates at the notorious concentration camp to contribute money for the erection of a monument at the former Auschwitz camp in memory of the Auschwitz victims.
