After lengthy negotiations, DAIA, the central Jewish body of organized Argentinian Jewry, today completed reorganization of its executive, electing as its president Dr. Isaac Goldenberg. He is joint secretary-general of the Argentine Mapai Party, a member of the Zionist Actions Committee, and former chairman of the Argentine Zionist Organization.
The presidency of the DAIA has been vacant since the death, in March 1960, of the Dr. Abraham Mibashan. Filling the place of Dr. Mibashan temporarily, since the latter’s demise, has been Dr. Marcos Diner, a vice-president of DAIA. In addition to choosing Dr. Goldenberg as president, the DAIA has elected three vice-presidents: Herzl Gesang, president of the Argentine General Zionist Party; Gregorio Faigon, representing Ahdut Avodah; and Guillermo Cracovsky, secretary of Banco Israelita del Rio de la Plata. Dr. Alejandro Lutzky, representative of B’nai B’rith, was chosen secretary.
The new general council of DAIA, composed of all nationally minded sectors of the Jewish community here, affirmed in its first statement that DAIA identifies itself with world Jewry through the World Jewish Congress, and expressed its solidarity with Israel.
