Sir Simon Marks Honored by Queen for Public Services; Named Baron

Sir Simon Marks, 72-year-old chain store magnate and Jewish philanthropist, has been named a baron in Queen Elizabeth II birthday honors list.

The honor was conferred on Sir Simon for “public and charitable services.” Sir Simon, managing director of Marks and Spencer, has given away fortunes in philanthropy. A leading figure in the British community, he has contributed generously to Israel causes.
