Twelve scholarships for graduate training in Jewish communal service, totalling more than $20,000, have been awarded by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds in cooperation with local communities. Mrs. A. Louis Oresman, chairman of the National Scholarship Committee, announced here today. Grants ranged from $800 to $3,000 depending on the individual needs of the students.
The National Scholarship Plan, in which 55 communities participate, was established at the CJFWF General Assembly in Washington, D. C. in 1958 as one of a series of steps to overcome the shortage of professional personnel in Jewish community organizations and in health and welfare agencies. The first scholarships were granted a year later.
