David Goitein, Israeli Supreme Court Judge, Dead; Served in U.S.

David Edward Goitein, a justice of the Israel Supreme Court and former Minister to the United States, died yesterday at the age of 60.

Born in England, he settled in Palestine in 1924 and for two years was editor of the Palestine Bulletin, an English daily which was published by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. He was engaged in the practice of law for several years before he was named Israel consul general in South Africa in 1949 and minister in 1950.

From 1951 to 1953 he served as Minister Plenipotentiary to the United States. He returned to Israel when he was named to the Supreme Court. Under the pen name “Quidnunc,” he was a frequent contributor to the local and overseas press. He is survived by his wife and two children.

At the Cabinet meeting today, Prime Minister Ben-Gurion paid tribute to Justice Goitein’s “selflessness and devotion to State and Government” He conveyed condolences to the Justine’s family.
