Operation of an atomic reactor was started this weekend in Egypt, it was reported here today. An announcement to this effect was officially issued in Cairo by Salah Hedayet, director of the United Arab Republic Atomic Energy Commission. He said the 2,000 -kilowatt reactor was built with the aid of Soviet atomic energy experts and that it would be used for peaceful purposes.
