Mayor Robert F. Wagner was host yesterday to the 135 athletes who left last night for Tel Aviv to represent the United States in the sixth World Maccabiah Games to be held in Israel beginning next week.

After presenting a plaque to the U.S. squad, Mayor Wagner told the group: “I envy you the opportunity to go to Israel to participate in these games. I know it will be a great thing to see the progress Israel is making. I also know of the bonds of friendship that exist between the United States and Israel and especially with New York.”

The Mayor said that such cooperation “brings enduring friendships and sending a team abroad gives the Israelis an opportunity to see the products of our youth, of which we are so proud. My very best wishes go out to you and I know you will uphold the highest traditions of the sport,” Mayor Wagner declared.
