Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel’s Foreign Minister, will again head the Israel delegation to the forthcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, the outgoing Cabinet decided today. Mrs. Meir is expected to arrive in New York a day or two after Rosh Hashanah. The Assembly convenes September 19, on the eve of Yom Kippur.
Other members of this year’s delegation to the UN will be: Ambassador Michael S. Comay, Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations, who will assume the chairmanship of the delegation after Mrs. Meir departs for home; Ambassador Arieh Eshel, the permanent deputy representative; Gideon Rafael and Ehud Avriel, both deputy directors-general of the Foreign Ministry; and Shabtai Rosenne, legal adviser to the Foreign Ministry.
The Cabinet also assigned five alternate delegates. They are Gershon Avner, head of the U.S. desk in the Foreign Ministry; Arthur C.A. Liveran, a Foreign Ministry deputy director-general who heads the British Commonwealth division; Shimshon Arad and Miss Hava Hareli, members of Israel’s permanent mission to the United Nations; and Miss Shulamith Nardi. Parliamentary observers to act as members of this year’s Assembly delegation will be selected by the new Cabinet after the new Cabinet is organized.
