Chinese Translation of Works of Sholom Aleichem Published in Peking

A new Chinese translation of the works of Sholom Aleichem has been published in Peking, it was reported here today. “Chinese Literature,” a Peking periodical which discussed the publication of the new translation, reported that some of the works were read by the Chinese Youth Art Theatre to mark the recent centenary of the Yiddish writer’s birth.

The literary magazine, which gave the writers name as “Sh. Aleichem, ” was informed of the meaning of the expression “Sholom Aleichem, ” by Dov Noy, director of the Haifa Ethnological Museum, and in a letter of reply to Mr. Noy, was promised to rectify the mistake, made “through ignorance. “
