David J. Galter, Former Editor of ‘jewish Exponent’ Dies in Philadelphia

Funeral services were held here today for David J. Galter, prominent Jewish Journalist and active leader of the Philadelphia Jewish community, who died here yesterday at the age of 71.

Born in Bialystok, Russia, Mr. Galter was brought to this country by his parents when he was a young child. A member of the staff of the Philadelphia Public Ledger for seven years, Mr. Galter later became managing editor of the Jewish World, a Philadelphia Yiddish daily. He was associated with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency for some 20 years as Philadelphia correspondent and as editor of Jewish Current News, a weekly edition for children published by JTA.

In 1933 he became editor of the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent and remained in that post until 1953, when he retired. He was active in the local Federation of Jewish Charities and the Allied Jewish Appeal.
