Women comprise 42 percent of the contributors to Jewish welfare funds, and raise 11 percent of the total monies collected by these funds, Mrs. Arnold Rubenstein, of St. Paul, reported here today at a session devoted to “Women in Communal Service,” held by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds.
In a study of contributors’ attitudes, made in Essex County, New Jersey, Mrs. Rubenstein reported, it was found that almost 40 percent of 1, 000 men interviewed felt that women should make separate contributions.
Mrs. Harry L. Jones, of Detroit, the principal speaker at the session, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Bernard Schaenen, of Dallas, reported that experience shows that middle class women are the best source of volunteers. Another report was given by Mrs. Jules Goldman, of Kansas City.
