Assistant Head of Notorious Auschwitz Camp Released on Bail

Robert Mulka, 66, former SS colonel and assistant to Auschwitz commander Rudolf Hoess, was released on bail today following his re-arrest on charges of suspicion of murder.

Mulka was arrested in November 1960 on charges of supplying trucks which transported victims from the Auschwitz railroad station to the gas chambers. He was released but again arrested on May 25 this year on orders of the Frankfurt Superior District Court.
