17,000 Attend Third Chanukah Festival in N.y.; Hear Israel Diplomat

Ambassador Arich Eshel, Israel’s Consul General-designate in New York, tonight declared that his country “maintains its offer to its Arab neighbors to enter into negotiations on a mutual disarmament agreement in order to put an end to the waste of precious resources.”

He spoke to a near-capacity audience of 17, 000 persons at the third and final performance of the Chanukah Festival for Israel in Madison Square Garden under the auspices of the Israel Bond Organization. Emphasising Israel’s desire for peace and cooperation with the Arab States, Mr. Eshel said:

“Our most cherished wish is not destruction, but construction. Our heroic effort is directed towards the conquest of the still unreclaimed land in all parts of our country–and not towards the conquest of a square foot of territory beyond our frontiers. Our aim is brotherhood, not strife; cooperation and not suspicion; the negotiating table and not the armaments race.”
