New Soviet Long-range Bombers Put into Operation in Egypt

The United Arab Republic is putting into operation some new, Soviet-made long-range bombers, mounting two 23-millimeter guns, capable of carrying 10 tons of bombs for a distance of 4,250 miles, and capable of refueling while in flight, it was reported in the press here today.

The new Russian bomber, the TU-16, replaces the llyushin-28 craft which are now considered “outmoded,” the report said. The TU-16 is now operational also in the Russian air force.
