Maryland’s Montgomery County, a suburb of Washington, became the first in the State today to enact a law barring religious and racial discrimination in public places. The County Council approved the law-first of its kind anywhere in Maryland–by a vote of 4-2.
The ruling is expected to have bearing on action in the forthcoming session of the State Legislature at Annapolis where several state-wide anti-discrimination measures are reportedly, being readied for introduction. Many Federal Government employees live in the county.
