A proposal that the European Economic Community name a special committee to open formal talks with Israel for lowering tariff barriers was one of several suggestions made here today by Commerce Minister Pinhas Sapir during talks between 18 members of the European Parliamentary Assembly–which meets in Strasbourg.
Members of the delegation are from five of the six Common Market nations–Italy, France, West Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands. Luxembourg is not represented. The delegation came to Israel to discuss the future of Israeli relations with the EEC.
At the request of the delegation, the Commerce Ministry will prepare a detailed survey on Israeli industrial development projects, wage levels and an analysis of various Israeli industrial sectors and their chances of competing with similar sectors in Common Market countries.
