Shalom Shtarkes, the young religious teacher wanted in Israel in the kidnapping of his nephew Yosselle Schumacher, remained in prison today after rejection of an appeal against the refusal of a magistrate to allow him bail. The rejection was delivered by Lord Chief Justice Parker in support of a lower court ruling by Magistrate Sir Robert Blundell.
Appearing for Israel which is seeking to extradite the teacher was Leonard Caplin, The Israeli attorney said that the Israel Government felt there had been no change in the situation since the magistrate’s hearing which sent Shtarkes to jail to await an extradition hearing. Therefore, said Caplin, the Israel Government opposed bail.
