More than 100 persons converted to Judaism in the Chicago area last year, according to a survey conducted by the Sentinel, a Chicago Anglo-Jewish weekly. The rabbis polled by the paper agreed that the main reason for the conversions was intermarriage.

Most of the converts were women, the survey showed. While marriage with Jewish partners was the motive in the majority of cases, some of the converts were college students looking for a new faith.
