Israel has attracted African and Asian students and scholars because it shares in common with the United States a deep belief in freedom and democracy, Secretary of Labor Arthur Goldberg said here last night.
Speaking Before a fellowship dinner on behalf of Israel’s Bar-Ilan University, Secretary Goldberg paid tribute to Israel’s democratic heritage. This devotion to the rights of men and dignity of labor, Mr. Goldberg said, makes possible institutions like Bar-IIan "to hold out the light of learning and education" free from conformity.
In his address, the Labor Secretary also said that the United States continuously stands ready to furnish technical and economic assistance to Israel and her Arab neighbors to replace "ancient poverty" with abundance in that part of the world.
