Chief Rabbi of Algerian City Killed by Moslems; Curfew Proclaimed

The fatal stabbing of the Chief Rabbi of Mascara, Algeria, today touched off a chase by enraged Jewish youth of the rebel FLN assailants, two of whom were caught and killed, according to reports from Algiers.

French authorities rushed security forces to the Jewish quarter of Mascara and clamped a tight curfew down on the entire city. The Chief Rabbi was knifed while walking home from the main synagogue and died shortly afterwards.
