Isaac Altabev, Former Jewish Member of Turkish Parliament, Dead

Isaac Altabev, a former member of the Turkish Parliament who was among those arrested after the coup which toppled the Menderes Government, died here today. He had been released from prison last month after suffering a cerebral thrombosis. He was 67 years old.

An Istanbul merchant before being elected to Parliament, he had been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment on charges of violating the constitution, a general charge filed against many of those who were arrested after the coup. He was an active Jewish communal leader.
