Approval of a proposed ordinance to outlaw religious and racial discrimination in rental and sales of residential property was urged at a hearing by members of the San Francisco Fair Housing Practices Committee.
The committee members presented their arguments to a sub-committee of the City Supervisors Health and Welfare Committee. The Fair Housing Practices Committee is headed by Benjamin H. Swig, national Jewish leader; Terry Francois and George H. Johns. While spokesmen for real estate and apartment house interests oppose the proposed anti-bias ordinance, on the grounds that the measure would infringe “on individual freedom,” it is believed that the City Supervisors committee will recommend passage of the draft ordinance.
