Two companies were told today that alleged discriminatory employment practices will have to be reviewed before they can receive additional government contracts. Notification of the review orders came from the President’s Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity which identified the companies as Danley Machine Specialists of Cicero, III. and the Comet Rice Mills which has plants in four southern cities.
The actions were the first of their kind taken by the committee. They grew out of complaints of discrimination filed with the committee whose preliminary investigations reportedly indicated “reasonable doubt” of compliance with an executive order calling for equal employment opportunity.
A national conference of educators and community leaders will meet here next month to help develop plans to eradicate discrimination in employment, the President’s Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity said today. Several hundred representatives of civic, religious, intergroup and other interested organizations are expected to participate in the one day conference scheduled for May 19.
