Research grants totaling $606, 832 to be spread over a period of seven years have been awarded by the Federal Government to the Henry Ittelson Center for Child Research of the Jewish Board of Guardians, it was announced today by Henry L. Heming, president of the JBG. The grants will make possible, Mr. Heming said, the continuation of research conducted by the Ittelson Center for the last seven years, and will be used for an inquiry into the roles played by organic factors and family patterns in the illness of schizophrenic children.
The grants were made by the National Institute of Mental Health of the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Eleven psychiatrists, neurologists and researchers will work on the project, under Dr. William Goldfarb, director of the Henry Ittelson Center. Dr. David M. Levy, consultant to the U.S. Public Health Service and the New York City Department of Health, will be the project’s program consultant.
