In spite of appeals by the Government Civil Service Commission and by the Labor Council of Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, some 2,000 of Israel’s topmost government office administrators carried out previously announced plans by staging a one day “stay away” strike today.

The office and agency heads implemented their threat of a one day stoppage to emphasize demands that their salary levels be raised, so as to keep their earnings higher than many of their subordinates who, they contend, are now getting more pay than the managers. Government-employed engineers and other professionals recently were granted upgrading and wage increases after a prolonged strike.
