Funeral services were held here today for Dr. Jacob Jacobson, a prominent Orthodox Jewish physician who had done important research in the treatment of chronic infectious diseases. Dr. Jacobson died here yesterday at the age of 75. He was the discoverer of a therapeutic agent known as Jacobson’s solution which was first used successfully in the treatment of loss of vision caused by trachoma and in the treatment of deafness due to infections.
Born in Russia, Dr. Jacobson received his medical degree from the University of Paris and, in the early 1930’s he was sent by the French Government to North Africa where he successfully treated Arabs for trachoma. For many years he was active in the Mizrachi Organization in France. He came to the United States more than 20 years ago and was a member of the Jewish Academy of Arts and Sciences in this country.
