The fast expansion of United States trade with and investment in Israel was hailed here tonight as an “outstanding example of the free world’s cooperation for peace and progress.” This sentiment was voiced by speakers at the Ninth Annual Dinner of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, at the Hotel Roosevelt, here.
Awards citing “major contributions to the development of U. S. -Israel economic ties” were presented by the Chamber’s president Nathan Strauss III, to Bank Leumi le-Israel and to the Israel Discount Bank. Both bank, recently established branch offices in New York City.
Guests of honor at the dinner, which was attended by some 500 members and guests, were Ambassador Michael S. Comay, Israel’s permanent representative at the United Nations; and William Dale, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for International Affairs. David Karr, president of Fairbanks-Whitney Corporation, was the chairman.
