New York U. Launches Institute of Hebrew Studies; Headed by Katsh

An Institute of Hebrew Studies, said to be the first of its kind at an American ‘non-sectarian institution of higher learning, has been established at New York University, Dr. George D. Stoddard chancellor and executive vice-president, of NYU, announced here today.

Chancellor Stoddard said that the new Institute will coordinate the Hebrew study programs now offered to both graduate and undergraduate students in various schools of the University. It also will undertake an expanded research program in ancient manuscripts, a professorial exchange with Israeli universities, and a new program for the training of professors of Biblical and modern Hebrew.

Dr. Abraham I. Katsh, professor of education and chairman of the department of Hebrew culture and education in the School of Education, will be the director of the Institute of Hebrew Studies, Dr. Stoddard said.
