All indications are that the United Jewish Appeal of Essex County will close its 1962 campaign with a new 13-year high of $2,400,000 if cards still outstanding come in as expected, it was announced at an end-of-campaign Spotlight Dinner.
Alan Sagner, general chairman, called attention to this year’s increased giving. “We have shown,” Mr. Sagner said, “that we are ready to meet our obligations. We have shown that we have a viable Jewish community in Essex County. This is only the beginning.”
Herman M. Pekarsky, executive director of the Jewish’ Community Council of Essex County, reported that “It is reasonable to expect a final total of $2,400,000 if we get complete and vigorous coverage on all prospects who are still to be solicited, compared to the $2,140,000 raised in 1961. If everybody does his job, we will have the highest total in any campaign since 1949.”
