32 Jewish Graduate Receive Commissions in U.S. Service Academies

The first two Jewish cadets of the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs were commissioned there yesterday. The United States Naval Academy at Annapolis commissioned 11 new Jewish ensigns today at the same time that the Military Academy at West Point commissioned nine Jewish second lieutenants and the Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn. , commissioned four Jewish ensigns.

A total of 32 Jewish graduates are receiving commissions at the country’s five national service academies this month and next. The Merchant Marine Academy will commission six Jewish ensigns at Kings Point, N. Y. on July 30. All 32 of the new Jewish officers are receiving personally-inscribed copies of the Bible from the Jewish Welfare Board Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy.
