The United States Department of Agriculture today announced it had awarded a grant of $68,173 to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem to finance a five-year study of the growth of citrus trees. The Department said the study was designed to determine what makes citrus trees grow and what factors prevent growth and could lead to the use of chemicals for retarding the growth of citrus trees to protect them from cold weather.
